Robert Mitchell was nominated twice for the BBC Jazz Awards (Best newcomer and Best work), and won once as part the F-ire Collective (Innovation 2004,). He has also won National and Inernational awards in the group Quite Sane. He has been part of many projects, including Steve Coleman, Courtney Pine and Vaughn Hawthorne–Nelson. Peter Bogdanovich 2000). Part of a duo with Omar Puente, a television programme about them in Cuba was produced. It featured a performance at the Havana Jazz Fest 2005 (A Todo Jazz). Their debut CD BRIDGES (FIRE CD16) was released in 2006. Robert’s band PANACEA performed a BBC Radio1 Session with Gilles Peterson and also performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival (July 2006 – Holland) as well as the Vienne Festival (July 2008 France). Their debut CD VOYAGER(Dune) was released on 2001, earning the BBC’s first nomination. Their second CD TRUST (Foire CD5) was released in 2005 to great reviews. Robert Mitchell’s Panacea also won the Gilles Peterson Worldwide Awards for best live session. Robert was previously commissioned by Nuance and the Jerwood Trust/BBC. This collaboration between Panacea’s orchestral musicians and RPO orchestral players, as well as Nitro/ROH (an opera collab project), were both a part of Robert’s previous commissions.

He currently works with Jhelisa Anderson, a US singer, in the electric band and the Nina Simone Project.
