Miyeon & Park Je Chun

Miyeon & Park are a critically acclaimed duo that is structured improvisation musicians. Their repertoire includes Korean, contemporary classical, and jazz music. Since the mid-90’s, they have been performing regularly. Numerous albums have been released by them. Kang Tae Hwan (a.sax), Satoh Masahiko (pf),Lauren Newton,voice),Otomo Yashihide(gt.elec), Simon Nabatovepf), Wadada Leo Smithtp )…. Their duo album “Queen & King”, released in 2005, was voted the top 10 Korean Jazz music albums of the 21st Century by “Jazz People”, “Dreams From The Ancestor”, in 2008, was awarded the Best Crossover Album, Best Instrumental Album, and the Best Crossover Album in the Korean Music Awards 2009. “Sheng” (Saeng), was also recently released in 2010. Both studied music composition at the renowned Joongang University. They also studied Korean traditional Pansori and Shaman music, as well as Samulnori. These elements were then incorporated into Jazz and European Contemporary musics to create a new type of music. Miyeon, the pianist, is a sensitive and delicate performer who has great abilities in both composing and arranging. Park Je chun is a percussionist with a unique drum set that combines Western and Korean percussions. He also performs the drum set on the ground, which is a natural result of Korean culture. He finds it quite comfortable. Miyeon & Park are the pioneers of free-improvisation music in Korea. They have also participated in outstanding works by internationally-respected music artists.
