Matthew Ottignon, a saxophonist from Sydney, was inspired by Mulatu Astatke, an Ethiopian artist. He also toured to Ethiopia with Dereb The Ambassador. The fusion of Eastern mellismatic rhythms and hypnotic, trancelike rhythms is a formidable combination. Matt Ottignon has been a sponge for local music culture and collaborated with artists to create new music. Matt Ottignon’s original compositions for MISTER OTT are not ‘world music’ as such. They combine native melodies with syncopation and free-form improvisation from various sources. Matt is particularly interested in the unique sounds of Ethiopian music and has been involved with them. In 2011, he toured Ethiopia with Dereb the Ambassador, a Sydney-based company. from https://misterott.com
