Bert Myrick

This obscure, deliciously obscure album from Bert Myrick’s Detroit-based imprint Strata Records is a long-held “Holy Grail” for serious jazz collectors. It’s partially due to the high quality of the musicians on the album – Myrick’s quintet included some of the best jazz players from the Motor City in the ’60s and ’70s, as well as Kenny Cox, but mostly because it’s exceptional. It was recorded at the University of Michigan almost a decade prior to its 1974 release. It contains the best jazz compositions you’ll ever hear, Cox’s epic, “Scorpio’s Child” and the Afro-Cuban hit, “The Latin Bit”. Myrick’s drumming throughout is outstanding. From www.juno.co.uk
