For Concord recordings dates in the late 1980s and early 1990s, George Wein assembled a variety of musicians to form the Newport Jazz Festival All Stars. They included Scott Hamilton, Warren Vache, Al Cohn, and cornetist Al Cohn on one occasion. The 1990 All Stars release was a live concert recorded in Bern in 1989. Their 1988 release was recorded in Switzerland in 1987. From allmusic Since its inception in 1954, the Newport Jazz Festival has been a symbol of jazz excellence. George Wein organized groups under the name Newport Jazz Festival All-Stars or Newport All-Stars to spread the message of Newport around the globe.
