In 2002, Nostalgia77, also known as Ben Lamdin, burst onto the music scene with his new, heavy-funk-based sound. His tireless work and prolific creations have resulted in many exceptional albums of high quality. They contain a variety of styles and influences, from more serene, solemn, beautiful offerings to more upbeat, heavy-funk, hip hop based beats mixed together with dusty old jazz and obscurofunk. The resulting nu-jazz orchestrated release, “Everything Under the Sun”, was created from this driven audio spectrum. Ben won the “Gilles Peterson BBC Worldwide Awards” ‘Jazz Album of the year’ award in 2006 thanks to his dedication, writing talent, and hard work. Lamdin describes his style as “a mixture of soul and jazz composition with computer-based production techniques” after this album’s success. He had grown up producing hip-hop beats and had always enjoyed snippets from jazz tracks. So the decision to create his own jazz music was a natural one. He has been able to share his cover of “Seven Nation Army” by The White Stripes with Alice Russell, which has helped him reach a wider audience. Nostalgia77’s influences include 60’s soul, soul, and free jazz.
