Orchestra De La Paillote

Multi-instrumentalist Keletigui Traore was already an established bandleader when Independence arrived in Guinea in 1958. During the campaign for Authenticite, Sekou Toure joined the Syli Orchestre National. This was a group of top musicians from the country that would develop and nurture Guinean music. It would be one of Africa’s most popular styles. After the National orchestre set the standard, there was a network of state-sponsored groups in Guinea. Orchestre de la Paillote was the leader of this network. The group was renamed Keletigui et ses Tambourinis in the middle of the 1960s. In the 60s and 70s, Guinean music was at its best. Many of the country’s most talented musicians were found within the Tambourinis. These included saxophonist Momo Wandel as well as guitarist soloist Linke Conde. http://www.last.fm
