Ovary Lodge was a progressive jazz/jazz trio, later a quartet, founded by Keith Tippett (piano and zither), Roy Babbington (“upright bass”) and Frank Perry (“percussion”) in 1973 following Tippett’s work with Centipede Orchestra. Robert Fripp was the producer. They recorded an album for RCA’s U.K. Division that featured spontaneous acoustic jazz rock. Its sound fit in between King Crimson’s Lizard album, and the Larks’ Tongues in Aspic. Two years later, Babbington was replaced by Harry Miller on bass and Tippett became the singer wife of Julie Tippett (formerly Julie Driscoll from Brian Auger).
