Partikel

Partikel are a unique take on the saxophone trio format. Their live performances have earned them the title of “One of the most popular young bands in the UK” by JazzWise. Partikel are “one of the most consistent and outstanding contemporary British jazz bands” Ian Mann. 2016 Partikel have been touring extensively throughout the UK, Europe, and China for many years. Partikel started the year touring the UK with Benet McLean (one of Europe’s most talented jazz violinists), performing music from their critically-acclaimed album “String Theory”. The band has exciting plans for 2016, including a headline performance in London’s Ronnie Scott’s. Love Supreme Festival and Pizza Express Jazz Club are two other notable bookings this year. Partikel will also join forces with Benet McLean for their 2017 album, which will explore the world of electronic music. 2015 saw the release of their third album, ‘String Theory’. It featured four of the country’s finest string players pushing artistic boundaries to create something original and sometimes deeply moving (Kevin LeGendre). The album was released by Whirlwind Recordings in spring to great critical acclaim. It also led to several high-profile appearances across the UK, including at the London String Quartet Festival at Pizza Express, Soho, and the EFG London Jazz Festival. The band reached new heights in the year with performances from Shanghai to Seville. Partikel began a month-long tour through China in October, performing in nine cities. Partikel performed in a variety of concert halls, arts centers and festivals, as well as giving workshops at some of China’s top educational institutions. It returned to the UK in November and immediately went into the London Jazz Festival before going on for three performances in Seville as part the Festival en la Provincia. The band has also been running a successful night at The Hideaway in Streatham for 6 years. Max Luthert, bassist, rightly stated that “we have been playing together so many times over the past six years it is really starting to build a strong and cohesive group sound.” Rarely does a jazz group have the chance to collaborate and develop their art in such a way as Partikel. The result is a unique, melodic, and passionately interactive set that features sincere and passionate music. Partikel’s second album, Cohesion, was named by Kevin Le Gendre, a renowned critic, as one of the top 10 Jazz Albums 2012. This list included albums from Steve Lehman and Gregory Porter, as well as Partikel’s own album. Partikel has performed at many clubs and festivals across the UK, including The London Jazz Festival and Wuhan International Jazz Festival. For a complete list, please visit the “concerts” page.
