Hermeto Pascoal

Hermeto Pascoal is a Brazilian composer and multi-instrumentalist born in Arapiraca, countryside of Alagoas (Northeast Brazil) on June 22nd, 1936. His compositions are based on nature. Hermeto uses a variety of non-conventional instruments, such as teapots, toys for children, and sometimes animals. He is a skilled soloist, energetic and talented, who can play on keyboards, soprano and guitars, as well as flutes, voice, brass instruments and other non-traditional instruments. One Brazilian television program from 1999 featured him singing in a cup while his mouth was partially submerged. Pascoal first came to public attention when he appeared on Miles Davis’ 1971 album Live Evil. Pascoal was featured on several studio pieces, some of which he also composed.
