It was not easy to classify Reedman Dexter Payne. Payne, a clarinetist and alto/baritone Saxophonist from Denver, CO, has been playing jazz extensively. However, he also plays everything from folk-rock to electric blues to world and Latin music. Payne has had many associations over the years. These include Barbecue Bob, the Brazilian percussionist Thiago De Mello, and the late folk-rock/blues singer Judy Roderick, who was Payne’s musical partner for 16 year. Unfortunately, Roderick died in 1992 from complications from diabetes. In the 1970s, Payne and Roderick formed a Rogue Jazz Orchestra.
