Quest

Quest is nominally a collaborative band that includes Dave Liebman, Richie Beirach, Billy Hart, and at times, Ron McClure and George Mraz. The group’s repertoire is extremely broad, fitting Liebman’s catholic faith. Although the individual members can play any style of jazz, the group’s strength is in its post-Coltrane mode. Palo Alto recorded the band’s first album, titled “Eponymous”, in 1981. Mraz was on bass. Later albums include Quest II (1986) and Natural Selection (1988), both with McClure. CMP’s 1990 album Of One Mind demonstrates the band’s love for free and creative improvisation. Quest’s music is a reflection of a creative empathy shared between its members. Liebman and Beirach have a long-standing musical relationship which dates back over two decades. Quest’s confidence in its business operations results in music that is rich and intense. Allmusic
