The Quiet Boys

Chris Bangs was one the founder fathers of acid jazz and the Acid Jazz label. He also designed the Acid Jazz logo, the irreverent, grgraffitti-doused take on the acidhouse smiley face. The man was a pioneer in many genres, including mambo, bossa, soul, boogie or hard-core jazz, and electronic bleeps. The legends of the 80s were his gigs at Bournemouth’s Special Branch or at the Bournemouth weekender, or with Gilles Peterson at the legendary Cock Happy or Mambo Madness nights. Chris hung up his headphones at the New Year’s Eve 1989 gig to focus on his prolific studio output, which included many Acid Jazz releases under different monikers, such as Bangs A Bongo and Lay-Zee Muthas, and was a frequent contributor to the Totally Wired series. He was able to use the production experience he gained at the label to produce later albums by Paul Weller and Galliano. Bangs was the most influential acid jazz producer. He started the Soul In One DJing night in 2010. It combined the early Acid Jazz vibe with a wide range of soul music. from http://acidjazz.co.uk
