Harish Raghavan

Harish Raghavan, bassist-composer, has been a key figure in the development of a new generation of musicians for more than a decade. Thelonious Monk Competition semi-finalist is praised as a sound architect on a variety of original projects, including Eric Harland’s and Ambrose Akinmusires. Logan Richardson and Vijay Iyer, Gerald Clayton and Taylor Eigsti are all long-standing collaborators. The New York-based artist was born in Chicago and switched from Mridanga to Bass at the age of 16. He has a passion for mixing lineages and created an inclusive and deeply personal art form. Raghavan’s debut album Calls for Action, released by Whirlwind Recordings, reflects his growth as a musician and leader. The album features fifteen original tracks that serve as both a narrative and standalone suites. Raghavan earned his BA in Music at USC. He studied with Dave Carpenter and John Clayton, before moving on to Robert Hurst. Raghavan is a sought-after educator.
