The RED trio presents a variety of musical approaches and compositions in real-time by improvisation. The RED trio was formed by Rodrigo Pinheiro on the piano, Hernani Faustino on the doublebass, and Gabriel Ferrandini on the drums. RED Trio explores one of the most prolific jazz formations: piano/doublebass/drums. The music of the trio is fast, energetic, focused, dynamic, sometimes nervous, and even violent. The RED trio’s influences include jazz, improvised music and jazz in general. This counterpoint is made up of three parts. It oscillates between the most subtle sound and a loud, intense sound. RODRIGO PinheiRO was born in 1973 in Covilha, a small village in the middle of Portugal. At the age of five, I began learning music. Eighteen was the age when he moved to Lisboa. He also became more involved in the free improvisation scene in Portugal. He has had the chance to work with many musicians, including Jose Oliveira (Americo Rodrigues), Nuno Rebelo and Rodrigo Amado. He studied and worked with Carlos Zingaro and Gunther Müller, as well as John Zorn, who directed the “Cobra Portuguese Ensemble”, where he played the piano. Recently, RED trio was formed with Gabriel Ferrandini, Hernani Faustino, and John Butcher. They have also collaborated with Nate Wooley and Nobuyasu Furuya. HERNANI FAUSTINO Self-taught musician. Gabriel Ferrandini, a 23-year-old Californian, was born in Monterey. He is the son of a Portuguese parent who was born in Mozambique and moved to Brazil at the age of 2. His mother, a Brasilian mother of Italian ascendency, migrated to America in her teens. Since he was nine years old, this “citizen” has lived in Portugal. It was here that he first discovered jazz and improvisation. This is due to the richness and popularity of jazz in Portugal. We also know that Clean Feed, a Portuguese discographic company was named Label of the Year by All About Jazz in 2008. The young drummer is establishing himself as one of the world’s most prominent. Rodrigo Amado’s Motion Trio and Red Trio, Nobuyasu Furuya Trio and the electro-acoustic / noisy band Flu are just a few of the many musicians that make up Rodrigo Amado.
