Rob Reich was born in Long Island, New York. He began playing piano at the age of three. After graduating from Oberlin Conservatory for Music with a degree as Music Composition, he moved to San Francisco Bay Area where he discovered the accordion. This is his primary instrument. Reich’s music defies genre. Reich’s music is a combination of strong melodic ideas and rhythmic drive. He also has a spirit that encourages experimentation and irreverence. Tin Hat songs were inspired by the poetry of e.e. Cummings, music to be performed by trapeze artists and contortionists with Circus Bella as well as new repertoire for Rob Reich Trio or Quintet. He often performs live soundtrack to silent films with his accompaniment skills. He was asked to produce and compose a score for “The Stranger Part 1”, a full-length modern dance piece by David Herrera Performance Company. Yerba Buena Gardens Festival commissioned him to write “Sidewalks and Alleys”, a chamber ensemble of seven musicians. Reich has been a member of the acclaimed bands Tin Hat, Todd Sickafoose’s Tiny Resistors and Ben Goldberg School.
