Michel Reis, pianist and composer, began his musical education at an early age. He is a Luxembourgese native and studied classical piano with Serge Bausch, and jazz composition and theory with Patrick Hartert and Guy Cabay at the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg. Reis then moved to Boston to further his musical education. He studied at Berklee College of Music as well as the New England Conservatory of Music. There, he received a BM, and then a MM, in jazz piano and composition. Reis worked with Joe Lovano and Danilo Perez as well as Greg Hopkins and Esperanza Spalding. Reis was a participant in the ASCAP Foundation Workshop on Memory of Buddy Baker in 2010. He was accompanied by Bruce Broughton and Mark Snow, Ira Newborn, David Spear, and has continued to study part-time. Michel Reis is a leader and has released four albums, A Young Mind (2005) and Fairytale (2008) for Waltzing-Parke Records, and Point of No Return (2011) at Armored Records. Hidden Meaning (2012) was also recorded by Double Moon Records / Challenge Records International. Michel Reis is currently based in New York City and has performed at many of the most prestigious jazz clubs and festivals around the globe, such as the Blue Note Jazz Club and Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Reis was a finalist at the First Moscow Competition of Jazz Performers in 2005. He was awarded second place in the Montreux Jazz Solo Piano Competition a year later. From www.michelreis.com
