Tim Ries is a saxophonist and composer who also arranges, produces, and teaches. He holds degrees from The University of North Texas (BM), and The University of Michigan. His career began with Maynard Ferguson in 1983. Tim moved to New York City from England in 1985. Since then, his recording and performing credits have included a wide range of artists and musicians, including the Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Donald Byrd, Hank Jones, Phil Woods, Phil Woods, Chico Hamilton, Michael Brecker, Joe Henderson, Tony Bennett, Louie Bellson, Dave Liebman, Al Foster, John Patitucci, Danilo Peez, Bela Sakcsi Laskatos, and Maria Schneider. Tim was part of the Prism Saxophone Quartet between 1993 and 2003. As a leader, he has released 9 CDs. His two last CDs, Tim Ries Quintet, and Tim Ries Quintet Volume II, were recorded live at Smalls Jazz Club. He released The Rolling Stones Project, Concord (2008), and Stones World, Sunnyside (2005). Both are his arrangements of Stones classics in jazz and other music genres. These CDs have received rave reviews from all over the world. These discs feature guest artists such as the Rolling Stones, Sheryl Crow and Milton Nascimento. His most recent collaborations include performing with Sara Baras, a great flamenco dancer, and The East Gipsy Band of Budapest. Tim has taught composition and saxophone at The New School and Rutgers University. He also taught composition at The City University of New York, The New School and The University of Toronto.
