Ben Rosenblum, a jazz accordionist, pianist and composer, is based in New York City. He is a recent graduate of the joint program of Columbia University and Juilliard School of Music. His work has won numerous awards including the ASCAP Young Jazz Composers Award, the Downbeat Student Music Award and the Downbeat Student Music Award. His work has been recognized by numerous awards, including the ASCAP Young Jazz Composers Award in 2010, the Downbeat Student Music Award for Best Original Song in 2010 and the Downbeat Student Music Award for Best Arrangement in 2011. He also collaborated with Ryland Angel, a Grammy-nominated singer, on a variety of compositional projects. Unspoken was premiered at the Weisman Art Museum, Minneapolis, in November 2016. Ben was a finalist in the 2015 American Jazz Pianist Competition, Melbourne, Florida and the 2016 Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition, Jacksonville, Florida. Ben’s debut album, “Instead”, was released by OneTrickDog Records on March 1, 2017. It features jazz legends Curtis Lundy and Billy Hart on the drums. The album received many positive reviews, including 4/5 stars by Downbeat Magazine’s April 2017 issue. Ben has performed with the Bachiana Brasileira Orchestra (conducted and featuring Dave Brubeck) at Lincoln Center, as well as in Delhi (India), Masten Jazz Festival, Buffalo, Richmond Jazz Festival, Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival, Maryland, Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival, Manhattan, Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival, Brooklyn, DUMBO Arts Festival, Brooklyn, Musikfest (Bethlehem), PA, and Music Mountain Festival, Connecticut. He has performed at Carnegie Hall and Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola. Ben has performed with jazz legends such as Neal Smith and Curtis Lundy. He has also worked with Wayne Escoffery, Curtis Lundy and Deborah Davis. As a member the prestigious New York Youth Symphony Jazz Band’s Wycliffe Gordon, Brian Lynch, and Phil Woods, Ben was also privileged to perform alongside them. He also regularly collaborates with Alida Rohr (Boston) and Dev Avidon (New York). Columbia Jazz House is a student-run advocacy group for jazz at Columbia University. It promotes jazz on campus through concerts and educational workshops.
