Jorge Rossy, Barcelona 1964 (also called Jordi Rossy) began playing drums when he was 11. From 1980 to 1989, toured extensively and recorded with many musicians from the spanish scene, including Jack Walrath and Woody Shaw. 1989, moved to Boston to study trumpet in the Berklee College of Music. Jordi was the preferred drummer for many of his peers in Boston. He joined Danilo Perez trio in Boston for a few gigs in Panama and New York. Then he joined Paquito D’rivera for two years before moving to Ny City in 1991. Jordi was a part of the first recordings of Mark Turner, Seamus Blake and Kurt Rosenwinkel, as well as many other Boston musicians like Ethan Iverson and Reid Anderson. Jordi also recorded and worked with Joshua Redman and Bill McHenry. Also recorded and toured with The Bloom Daddies, an electric high-voltage band led by Chris Cheek. Jesse Murphy played bass and formed a two-drummer team with Jordi (or later with Tony Mason). In 2000, he moved back to Barcelona to start his piano studies and raise a family. Jordi has been playing piano and recording for the past 10 years with various bands such as Jordi Mateas Quintet and Joe Smith septet, and many projects with Guillermo Klein. This includes performances at Merkin Hall in NYC, and the Library of Congress Auditorium. Jordi has been recording his first album “Wicca” as a leader in a trio with Albert Sanz (Hammond organ) and RJ Miller (drums), and his second album “IVLIANVS Suite” featuring the same rhythm section, Chris Cheek on sax, and Felix Rossy (Jordi’s child) on trumpet. Jordi and his band have been on tour around Spain, Marroco, Italy, the east coast of USA, Marroco and even performed in Basel Switzerland in 2010. Jorge has been playing drums with Lee Konitz, Ethan Iverson quartet and Charlie Haden’s Quartet West, Land of the Sun Septet and Carla Bley’s Liberation Orchestra. He also played with Joe Lovano’s Quartet Europa and Kurt Rosenwinkel quintet. The Seamus Blake Quartet, trio 2000, Chick Corea, NHOP, and another trio with Brad Mehldau, Charlie Haden.
