Jim Rotondi, a Trumpeter, is a solid post-bop musician. His warm tone and improvisational style are deeply rooted in the great jazz trumpeters of the past. The Butte, Montana native started piano lessons at the age of eight with his mother. However, the trumpet became his primary instrument from the age of 12 onwards. Rotondi graduated high school in 1980 and enrolled at North Texas State University’s highly-respected jazz studies program. He won first place in 1984’s International Trumpet Guild jazz trumpet competition. Rotondi traveled with many ensembles, including Charles Earland’s quintet and the Lionel Hampton Orchestra after he graduated from college. Rotondi settled in New York City and became a major player in the vibrant jazz scene. Rotondi formed One For All in 1997 with Eric Alexander, a saxophonist, and Joe Farnsworth. In the same year, he also released his debut album, “Introducing Jim Rotondi”, on Criss Cross in Holland. New Vistas, his fifth album on the label, is his seventh solo album and is his seventh overall. from http://www.allmusic.com
