Scott Routenberg has a varied and prolific career as an arranger, composer, jazz pianist, and orchestrator. Scott won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest Maxell Song of the Year in 2004 for his electro-acoustic bigband composition Bandwidth (EMI Records), which was released on the album Jazztronicus. The ASCAP Foundation/Symphonic Jazz Orchestra Commissioning Prize (2016) and the ASCAP David Rose Scholarship, Los Angeles Henry Mancini Institute, ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composer Award and the Downbeat Student Award as Best Extended Length Composition are just a few of the other honors and awards Scott has received. Routenberg has been a Grammy-winning arranger for Metropole Orkest, under Vince Mendoza since 2011. He has also had orchestral premieres with the Houston Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Numerous big band arrangements were made for Howard Levy (the Grammy-winning harmonica virtuoso), The Jeremy Monteiro Big Band and the New York Youth Symphony. Routenberg also arranged Routenberg’s Concerto for Jazz Violin u0026 Orchestra, which was commissioned by Chien Tan, Oregon Symphony violinist. Austria, China, Norway, China, Singapore, and the Netherlands were among the world premieres. The premieres in the United States include Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Fox Newman Scoring Stage at Los Angeles (ASCAP Television and Film Scoring Workshop). Day 1 Studios and Lucas Arts commissioned Routenberg to create demo music for Fracture in 2007. Dr. Routenberg is Assistant Professor of Jazz Piano at Ball State University. Routenberg has performed alongside world-renowned jazz musicians such as Howard Levy, Christian Howes and many other. The Montreaux Jazz Festival is an international and national festival that features jazz musicians. Routenberg has performed at many notable venues and clubs such as The Green Mill (Chicago), The Jazz Kitchen(Indianapolis), The Velvet Note [Atlanta], The Chatterbox (“Indy”), The Palladium (19 Carmel, In), The Biltmore (Coral Gables), The Jazz Corner (Hilton Head Island). On March 10, 2017, the debut album Every End Is a Beginning was released by the Scott Routenberg Trio. The trio is an Indianapolis-based jazz pianist trio that includes Nick Tucker as bassist and Cassius Goens III as drummer. They have opened for John Scofield, jazz guitarist legend, and played Indy Jazz Fest 2015 u0026 2016. Ted Howe (keyboardist and arranger of Sergio Mendes and Bossa Rio), Chip Crawford, (Grammy Award-winning pianist for Gregory Porter), and Vince Maggio (student and roommate to Bill Evans) are Scott’s jazz piano teachers. Gary Lindsay, Ron Miller, and Raul Murciano were his composition and arranging teachers.
