Royal Crown Revue

The Royal Crown Revue, also known as RCR, was formed in 1989 in Los Angeles. They are often credited for starting the Swing Revival movement. RCR’s live performances have been extremely successful. They played in 1998’s Vans Warped Tour and opened for The Pretenders. In March 2010, the band filmed an episode on Gene Simmons Family Jewels. Mando Dorame, Eddie Nichols, and Mark Stern founded the band out of their love for Rockabilly, Punk and Jazz, Blues and Soul, as well as other roots music styles. Jamie Stern and Adam, two of Stern’s brothers, completed the group. Shawn, Adam, and Mark were part of Youth Brigade, a punk band. The band released their first album on BYO records and then signed with Warner Bros. They parted ways from the Stern brothers. Currently, RCR’s lineup consists of singer Eddie Nichols, tenor saxophonist/arranger/writer Mando Dorame, trumpeter Scott Steen and drummer Daniel Glass. The band continues to perform to packed houses in Australia, Europe, and the USA. RCR started a residency at The Derby in Los Angeles after filming The Mask. This landmark club gained international recognition due to its inclusion in Swingers. Royal Crown Revue was not allowed to appear in The Derby’s swing scene because of a conflict in their Warner Brothers contracts. Bette Midler’s top-grossing Kiss My Brass 2003-2004 tour was supported by the RCR Horn section. Bette was accompanied by Scott Steen, a Trumpeter. RCR appeared on numerous television, radio, and print programs, including The Mask and Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Viva Variety and The Today Show. The group performed at the Playboy Jazz Festival 1998, recorded with Bette Midler at Billboard Music Awards and created the theme song for WB Network’s 1999 television seasons. From Wikipedia
