Shamie Royston was born in Denver, Colorado. She is a pianist, composer, and educator. She earned her Master’s degree in Music Composition, where she was awarded top honors. Her musical compositions and her ability to teach young musicians from elementary school through college are the main reasons for her fame. Ms. Royston is a renowned educator in her field, having been awarded for her outstanding teaching skills at previous educational institutions. She has also given clinics, adjudicated college and high school jazz festivals, and been a clinician for top groups. Shamie Royston, a rising pianist in New York City’s jazz scene, is now Shamie. Shamie’s piano playing is exceptional and jazz listeners love her compositions. She has composed compositions for Sean Jones, the trumpeter of Sage and Tia Fuller, the all-women’s group. The Penfield School District in New York commissioned Shamie to organize an orchestra and big-band piece from her original compositions. She has been a member of the Tia Fuller Quartet since her move to New Jersey. She has also played with Lonnie Plaxico and Ron Miles. She has recorded with many other artists, including the Tia Fuller Quartet. With her fiery, but soulful piano playing, she has toured Europe as well as the United States.
