Daniel, a Swiss American composer, was born in Zurich in 1961. He currently resides in New York City. His credits as a composer include commissions to compose new works for the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, New York, The Tonkuenstler Orchestra, Vienna, The Radio Symphony Orchestra, The Norrlands Operan, Sweden, and the Chicago Sinfonietta. Kristjan Jaervi, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Chicago Jazz Philharmonic, American Composers Orchestra, Postclassical Ensemble, Opera Philadelphia, and many other organizations. In 2002, the Grammy nomination for Best Classical Small Ensemble Recording was given to Enja Nova’s Album “Absolution”. It features Daniel Schnyder’s Trombone Concerto. His special chamber music project for string quartet and saxophone, which combines composition and jazz, is often performed by him. It was also featured at Gaia Festival 2015. His extensive catalogue of chamber music works is performed and recorded around the world. He was an arranger/composer and produced albums for jazz musicians Abdullah Ibrahim (“African Suite”) Lee Konitz (“Tribute to Billie Holiday”), and Paquito D’Rivera (“Habanera”, Enja Records). On a number of projects, he collaborated with Peter Herbert, Burhan Olcal, Jing Jang and Marcel Kalife, Jamey Haddad, and also with Jamey Haddad, Jamey Hadad, Jamey Hasdad, Jamey Khan, Jamey Haddad, Jamey, Jamey, Jamey, Jamey, Jamey, and Peter Herbert. In November 2014, Daniel Schnyder’s Opera “Abraham”, a new opera, was presented in Duesseldorf. Opera Philadelphia has commissioned “Charlie Parker’s Yardbird” to be performed in June 2015. Laurence Brownlee will play Charlie Parker. In June 2016, the New York premiere will be held at Harlem’s iconic “Apollo Theater”, with the New York Philharmonic. His Pipa Concerto for ethnic instruments and his Alphorn Concerto were both premiered to great acclaim in the 2005/06 season. Daniel Schnyder also wrote a concerto to the Libanese Nay virtuoso Bassam Saba that was the main event of his festival program, “Arabian Night”. His symphonic piece “Sundiata Keita”, a symphonic composition for Large Symphony Orchestra, Chorus, and 4 Mali-based soloists playing traditional instruments, was premiered at Berlin Philharmony during his time as composer in residence at the RSO Berlin. He also toured with the “Around the World”, featuring the Soloists from the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Stefan Schulz, and worked closely as a composer and chamber musician with the Berlin Philharmonic’s Scharoun Ensemble. “Handel in Harlem”, his new album that features his collaboration with the legendary bass trombonist Stefan Schulz, is a reinvention in Handels Trio Sonatas. In 2015, a new album entitled “Art of the Duo” will be released. It features legendary bass trombone player David Taylor and Schnyder on the saxophone. Daniel Schnyder was awarded the first prize in the 1996 International Trumpet Guild Composition Contest. His Trumpet Sonata was chosen as an official piece for the Concours Maurice Andre pour Trompette 2003 in Paris. He was also awarded numerous awards by the International Flute Association and the International Clarinet Association for his chamber music. Master classes are held at the Hochschule fur Musik, the Baltic Youth Philharmonic, and the Bruckner University, Linz, in composition, chamber music and improvisation. As a consultant to major festivals, promoters, and ensembles, he aims to bring together the worlds classical music, jazz, and ethnic music in new ways. Along with the operas “Charlie Parker’s Yardbird” u0026 “Abraham”, there is a new work for Artemis String Quartet called “Impetus”. It includes a Concerto in Concerto for full Orchestra and String Quartet, a Bassoon Concerto to the Dresden Philharmony, a Pipa Concerto, a Double Concerto in Trombone and Saxophone that was performed at the Musikverein in Vienna and his orchestral piece “Drakool” which was performed at Carnegie Hall in February 2015. 2014 saw him’recompose’ the lost opera “Alceste”, by Handel, for the Handel Festival 2014. Halle (Germany), featuring Kristjan Jaervi and the MDR Orchestra, Thomas Dobler playing vibes, and himself on the saxophone. Daniel Schnyder toured Korea in 2014 with the Absolute Ensemble. He performed his new work, “Hn Moo”, which is based on traditional Chinese folk song lyrics. Absolute Ensemble released a 2014 CD on Sony Classical featuring Daniel Schnyder’s “ToopART Reinventions”, an original work that reflects on Bach’s Two Part Inventions.
