Schroeder-headz

Shunsuke watanabe is the leader of Schroeder–Headz, a post-jazz trio that includes piano, bass and drums. The group combines an acoustic sound with electronic programming to produce a stunning vision of the future for the piano trio. Named after Schroeder, a toy piano player from Peanuts, the group offers a glimpse into the mind of a boy who is influenced by classical, jazz and dance music. The group’s respect for Vince Guaraldi Trio (composers of iconic music from Peanuts animation) is also evident in the name. In 2010, the group released “Newdays”, their debut album. A cover EP entitled “Piano a la Carte Featuring Schröder-Headz” followed in 2011. The album artwork features Peanuts’ character Schroeder. It also includes a cover by electronic artist De De Mouse’s “Baby’s Star Jam”. The group was praised for their unique rendition of the song. It incorporated electronic music with live performance and used De De Mouse’s original vocal track. They performed at many festivals in Japan in 2012 including Sunset Live 2012 and Shizuoka Itadaki 2012. The group also made appearances at Greenroom Festival 2013 and Fukuoka’s Nakasu Jazz 2013. Asako Toki, a singer, joined them to perform as “AsakoToki Meets Schroederheads”, at jazz festivals and events like Sapporo City Jazz Ezo Groove 2013 and 12th Sakaiminato Yokai Jazz Festival 2013. They also participated in Takasaki Music Festival 3 Days and Jazz Japan Presents Girls’ Jazz Live Aid 2013. The group released the remix EP “Sleepin’ Bird” in December 2013. They also made the multitrack recordings available online. from http://schroeder-headz.com
