Cindy Scott (sundray Tucker)

Cindy Scott (real name Sundray Tucker) was born in Philadelphia. She is the eldest child of Louise Tucker. Ira Tucker is the legendary lead singer for the Gospel group The Dixie Hummingbirds. Lynda Laurence, her sister (from The Supremes), is her brother. Ira Tucker Jr. was once the manager of Stevie Wonder. Sundray was 14 years old when she sang in The Ordettes, a Philly singing group. A young girl named Patricia Louise Holt was also part of this group, and she later became Patti La Belle. The Ordettes quickly merged with The Del Capris to create The Bluebells’ first line-up. Although the Bluebells signed to Rainbow Records their first time, they moved to Harold B. Robinson’s Newtown record in 1962. Ironically, The Bluebells didn’t feature on their first hit, I Sold My Heart to The Junkman. This record was made by The Chicago Starlets, another Robinson group. They recorded it while The Bluebells were touring. Sundray remained with the group for two years before being replaced in that role by Cindy Birdsong. Sundray was 16 when her debut solo recording, Have It Your Way, was released by Texas-based Peacock Records. She released I’ve Got A Good Thing, and Nobody Will. She was also involved with Bernadelli Productions, where she started writing material with Leon Huff from Gamble.
