Boyd Senter, clarinet player and bandleader, provided Glenn Miller with his first musical outlet in 1921. Senter was still only in his 20s and living in Colorado. Senter was referred to as the “Jazzologist Supreme”. He eventually learned the trumpet and saxophones. But it was his fun clarinet playing that made Senter famous. His style was criticized by some. His first records with Autograph were, he claimed, among the first electronic recordings. Senter made his first recordings with Jack Russell and Eddie Lang in Okeh in 1927. Senter was instrumental in launching the careers of Tommy Dorsey and Jimmy Dorsey the following year. He also brought them into the studio along with Lang and Russell. Senter retired after a few years.
