Brian Setzer Orchestra

Brian Setzer Orchestra, also known as BSO or the initials BSO, is a swing and blues band that was formed by Brian Setzer (stray cat frontman). The group performed Louis Prima’s “Jump Jive an’ Wail”, which was featured on Prima’s 1957 album The Wildest! “Gettin’ in the Mood” was the BSO’s next single. Setzer created the orchestra in 1990. It was a big band with full trumpet, trombone, and saxophone sections. Setzer also organized the rhythm section, which featured Setzer’s guitar and vocals. The band also features upright slap bass, drums and piano. The orchestra started playing in clubs around Los Angeles and was later signed to Hollywood Records. Setzer spoke of how the band was the first to have a guitarist lead a large band. [1] The band is also known for mixing rockabilly/rock u0026 roll with big-band swing. In 1994 and 1996, the group released their first two albums. Interscope Records was the new label. A slight shift in the orchestration was also made, with the removal of the pianist. The Dirty Boogie (1998) followed them, which featured Setzer-penned originals as well as covers of classic swing songs. The orchestra embarked on several U.S.- and international tours. The album Vavoom! The album Vavoom! followed. In the early 2000s, two albums of Christmas music were released and many supporting tours. Two backing vocalists were added to the orchestra, and Julie Reiten became Setzer’s spouse. [citation needed] Setzer convinced Frank Comstock to arrange arrangements for Wolfgang’s Big Night Out 2007. Comstock had previously composed “The Nutcracker Suite” for one of the Christmas albums, but then retired. The 2008 Christmas tour was cancelled by the orchestra, but it returned to the road in 2009. The orchestra released Songs from Lonely Avenue in 2009, but cancelled its 2008 Christmas tour. It was Setzer’s first album with all original songs. Frank Comstock also contributed to the horn and string arrangements. From Wikipedia
