Tethered Moon is sometimes listed under Gary Peacock’s title and features the three musicians as close-equals. However, it is actually led Japanese pianist Masabumi Poo Kikuchi. Although Kikuchi’s playing can sometimes be reminiscent of Paul Bley’s, his sense of humor and ingeniousness are his own. A few years ago, Kikuchi was primarily heard on synthesizers so the thoughtful Tethered Moon was quite an departure. It’s worth looking for. Allmusic
