In Chartres (France), Gauthier Toux, a jazz pianist, was born in 1993. At age 8, he began studying music in the Yamaha schools before moving to the Chartres conservatory for classical piano. He met Jean-Jacques Ruhlman in 2006 and they continued to study together until 2011. He was accepted to Lausanne’s music school (Haute Ecole de Musique in September 2006) and majored jazz performance. In 2015, he graduated with a Master’s degree in jazz performance. In 2017, he received a master’s degree in musical pedagogy. He was trained under MatthieuMichel, Emil Spanyi and George Robert. During his training, he also studied at Copenhagen’s Rhythmic Music Conservatory under Franck Avitabile and Baptiste Trotignon. He formed the Gauthier Toux Trio in October 2013 (Maxence Sibille and Kenneth Dahl Knudsen). They have performed at major festivals like Jazz a Vienne and Jazz a Orleans, Cully Jazz and Jazz onze, as well as the Copenhagen Jazz Festival. The trio performed at Sunset Sunside and the Theatre d’Orleans. They also played at the AMR (Association pour l’encouragement de la musique improvisee), Periscope, Moods, Institut Francais, Agadir, and Chorus. Their last album was streamed on Jazza FIP, Radio France, France Musique and Citizen Jazz . They won the first prize in 2016 at la Defense Jazz festival competition. Gauthier also won prizes at the Monaco Jazz Soloist Competition and the Piano Forte Jazz Competition. He was also the winner of the Nottingham Piano Solo Competition. In his still young career, he has already played with many bands – groups like Maxence Sibille, the Kenneth Knudsen Orchestra, World Citizen Band, Dave Liebman, Julien Herne, Christophe Panzani… And he has played several venues, notably, the Buenos Aires Jazz Festival, Jazz B in Sao Paulo, B-Flat in Berlin, the Maroquinerie in Pari, Cully jazz festival, Beyrouth, Marostica Jazz club… from https://gauthiertoux.com
