Tommy Turrentine, Stanley Turrentine’s older sibling, had a parallel life for a while. The most important gigs he had were with Benny Carter (1946), Earl Bostic (52-1955), Charles Mingus (1956), as well as big band work with Dizzy Gillespie and Billy Eckstine. Turrentine was able to play alongside his brother Max Roach (1959-1960), which is well-documented. He recorded his first session as a leader in the early 1960s for Time and was featured on dates with Jackie McLean and Sonny Clark before he retired from music and fell into obscurity. Tommy Turrentine, a great hard-bop-oriented trumpeter, had the talent to take his talents further. Allmusic
