Matt Ulery is a Chicago-based composer/bassist and bandleader. His sound is instantly recognisable. His music is known for his expressive emotionalism, unorthodox phrase structures and sweeping lyrics. Ulery can be found on both upright and electric basses, as well as doubled on the tuba. Ulery is the leader and founder of Loom, By a Little Light and a member of Eastern Blok and the Grazyna Auguscik Group. Ulery has 5 albums of original music under his own name, including the June 2012 release of a double album through Dave Douglas’s Greenleaf Music label. Ulery holds a Master of Music at Depaul University as well as a Bachelors in music composition at The Chicago College of Performing at Roosevelt University. He has released 5 albums of all original music, including his most recent release on Dave Douglas’s Greenleaf Music record label in June 2012. Matt performs regularly at Chicago’s music venues, including the Chicago Cultural Center, The Krannert Center and Blues Alley.
