Gast Waltzing

Gast Waltzing has been a music lover his whole life. He was classically trained at Europe’s top Conservatories and was the founder of Luxembourg’s Jazz Department conservatoire, which he currently heads. He has recorded dozens of albums covering everything from jazz to classical and dance. He has also composed the music for more than 160 movies and TV shows (Maison Close, Canal, Kustenwache, JCVD, George and the Dragon, etc.). His Largo project draws on his vast experience, but is a departure. Gast Waltzing, a Luxembourgian native, set out to create music that expresses his feelings musically after years of film music composition. Gast Waltzing says, “If Miles Davis was around today, I believe this is what they would do.” I am tired of the backward-looking that jazz is displaying right now. Original innovators were innovators. They took inspiration from everything around them and didn’t try to sound like everyone else. Jazz is a living music. It doesn’t belong in history. It must move on.” Gast Waltzing’s unique vision and highly personal take on jazz is what makes Largo’s music so special. “I am always a musician. It’s not as if I wake up and decide when music should be played. Gast Waltzing has many musical influences. He is a huge fan of classical music, such as Bach, Beethoven and Debussy. Then there’s Jazz legends like Miles Davis, Duke Ellington and Charlie Parker. Next, there’s Tricky and DJ Logic, who are more current. Largo is a seamless combination of all these musical worlds. Each one supports, informs and elevates the other. It is smooth but not too sweet, but it is also innovative and never dry. The music is dynamic and fresh. The band has released 2 albums on Warner Jazz: “Fables of Lost Time”(Warner Jazz 5050466-4082-2-88) in 2003, and “Long Journeyā€¯ (Warner Jazz 546781322) in 2005. In September 2009, Gast Waltzing’s label WPR Jazz released “It’s all About As” which was their third album. Gast Waltzing
