Daniel Foose, a New York City-based bassist, composer, and producer, is his name. Daniel’s nimble ear and strong groove make him a natural in many musical settings. He has recorded and performed alongside many of the most prominent musicians around the globe, including Lady Gaga, Kenny Werner and John McNeil. He is the leader of his own group, Of Water and Ghosts. He also co-leads The Gold Magnolias. He has been on tour throughout North America, Asia, Europe and Europe and was twice awarded third place in the International Society of Bassists jazz competitions in 2005 and 2013. Many of the most prestigious venues in the world have hosted Daniel, including Lincoln Center, The Blue Note and The Iridium. He has also performed at The Lenox Lounge and The North Sea Jazz Festival. Daniel was born in New Orleans, LA in 1982 and raised in Austin. His childhood was filled with music. Daniel was blessed with a father who played both guitar and piano, and who was also a scholar of New Orleans music [check the new edition of his book up From the Cradle of Jazz].] His musical talents were supported generously. His father would often allow Daniel to visit the studio, where he produced many of Austin’s best-known Blues artists. Daniel started studying electric bass and classical trombone at the age of 12. Mark Gurgel, his middle school band director encouraged Daniel to join a jazz band. He learned the basics of jazz theory, improvisation, and groove. Daniel began studying the acoustic basse with Art Langston in high school. Soon Daniel was playing with many Austin jazz musicians and exploring new musical territory with his peers. Daniel decided to pursue music as his career and began studying at the University of North Texas in 2001. Daniel studied bass with Lynn Seaton, who has been a constant source of inspiration and support. Many of the great guest artists who visited North Texas included Jimmy Cobb, Terri Lyne, Carrington, Benny Golson and Johnny Vidacovich. Daniel received a B.M. and an M.M. in North Texas.
