Joël Rabesolo

Joel Rabesolo was conceived in Antsirabe in Madagascar in 1982. He is a guitarist, author, composer, and arranger. He started playing the traditional Malagasy instrument the kabosy at age eight. He was quick to master the triplet rhythms and syncopated 4/4s of tsapiky as well as other styles that are typical of his country. After seeing Eric Clapton perform on television, he wanted to learn more about music. By playing in a Saturday night group, he learned how to play in many styles. He discovered jazz at the age of 17. He won the 1st prize in 2006 for jazz guitar at a contest of new talents organized by RLI Radio. This allowed him to interact and learn from professional musicians both domestically and abroad. He took part in the performances “Music-Poem” with actor Jean-Paul Delore, and “Music-Choreography-Painting” with Paul Bloas and Bernardo Montet. He has been a part of Island Jazz since 2013, the project of Linley Marthe, the internationally renowned bassist. He is currently part of the trio MGM Malagasy Guitar Masters and is continuing to learn jazz at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels… where he first met Fabien degryse. from http://fabiendegryse.com
