Peter Erskine, born June 5, 1954, is a jazz drummer. He was born in Somers Point (New Jersey), USA. At the age of 4, he began playing drums. He joined the Stan Kenton Orchestra in 1972 to begin his professional career. He joined Kenton for three years and then moved to Maynard Ferguson where he stayed for two more years. He joined Weather Report in 1978, along with Jaco Pastorius, to create a formidable rhythm section. He joined Steps Ahead after four years and five albums spent with Weather Report. Erskine enjoyed a long, successful career as a session drummer, recording and touring with top jazz and rock musicians, including Steely Dan. His books, DVDs and videos are all full of great teaching. Kate Bush’s 2005 album Aerial features Erskine and bass player EberhardWeber, whose music-style spans the globe. Among many others, Peter is still admired for his versatility and musicality. He has been a featured musician in the Scottish and Finnish Classical Orchestras. He is currently a member of the University of Southern California’s music faculty.
