The Young Olympians

In the New Orleans area, there are more young repertory and traditional jazz groups. The Young Olympians of Crescent City are not strictly a brass ensemble. They are more like a traditional orchestra that does everything, from stomps and struts, marches and spirituals. This 12-song set is a tribute to Louis Armstrong. However, they can also perform excellent versions of Fats Waller’s ‘Ain’t Misbehavin” and King Oliver’s ‘Canal Street Blues. Mervyn Campbell’s renditions of Armstrong’s voice have been controversial. They are either loved, hated or questioned depending on how the listener remembers Armstrong and their perspective. Allmusic
