Zakarya, based in Paris, were founded by visionary accordionist Yves Weyh in 1999. They feature Alexandre Wimmer (guitar), Vincent Posty (bass) and Pascal Gully (drummer). Zakarya explores aspects of Jewish history, humor rhythms, scales and sensibilities musically. They feature folk motifs mixed with rock energy and klezmer abandon. In 2000, the group signed with John Zorn’s Tzadik Records, releasing Zakarya in 2001. This followed with 413A (featuring Marc Ribot as a guest) in 2003, 413A in 2006, and The True Story Concerning Martin Behaim (2008).
