Aram Shelton (alto saxophone, Bb clarinet); Guillermo Gregorio (alto saxophone, Bb clarinet); Keefe Jackson (tenor saxophone, bass clarinet); and Thomas Mejer (contrabass saxophone). The 774th St Quartet was formed in an area that no longer exists – in the corner above a beloved Ukrainian deli in Chicago’s Ukrainian Village. Thomas Mejer, a Swiss artist exchange student, was in Chicago at the time and met Guillermo Gregorio. He was a steadfast composer, saxophonist, and clarinetist. Keefe Jackson and Aram Shelton were also there. There was no need to create a new quartet of saxophones. The flexibility that came with replacing their brass-reeded instruments by clarinets made it easy to abandon strict instrumentation. Each member of the quartet contributed compositions within a very short time. Bloody Murder Records, a growing label, has released material from the quartet. from http://www.aramshelton.com/774.html
