The African Jazz Pioneers are a South African band that celebrates the music of 1950s South Africa. They fuse big-band jazz with traditional South African sounds, such as township marabi. This is the third generation of Pioneers and the band has survived. The group has a younger look and a more youthful sound. Bra Ntemi Piliso was the bandleader and saxophonist. He opened up the world of composition to the Pioneers’ younger musicians. From Wikipedia
