Ahmed أحمد

The quartet of Pat Thomas (piano), Antonin Gebal (drums), Joel Grip(bass), and Seymour Wright (“alto saxophone”) create music that is heavy in rhythm, repetition, and syncopation. They are deep into jazz history and its obscure depths. Abdul-Malik, a NYC bassist and oudist, was also a composer, educator, philosopher, and musician. He merged aspects of American, Arabic, and East African thought and ethics in open and experimental ways to create vital, forward-leaning jazz. [Ahmed] will reimagine Malik’s notes as they seek new ground. The melodies breathe, swell and explode in driving jazz that yes, is technically accomplished but ultimately only foot-to the floor swings. From www.deejay.de
