Aimee Allen, a jazz singer/songwriter and jazz singer, has released her fifth CD, Wings Uncaged. This is her most mature and original musical statement. Aimee Allen has been a warm, creative, and swing singer. Her songs are thought-provoking and have timeless insights. Wings Uncaged features creative reworkings and five memorable originals. Aimee Allen is at the top of her game. Aimee is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She remembers that there was always music in the house. My mother sang in the house as a child and I followed her lead. My brother played guitar, and I was able to play a little bit of piano. I can recall hearing great jazz like Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald and Betty Carter. A lot of classic rock, including Steely Dan and Stevie Wonder, was also available on AM radio. Aimee sang in school choirs, occasionally in church, and also played the flute.” Aimee started to take singing seriously while attending Yale. She began performing in a cappella groups. As an undergrad, she went to Paris to start singing professionally in duo gigs at piano bars. “Paris instantly felt like a second place to me,” she said. She joined top musicians from the area to form Le Bossa Novices. They sang Jobim songs and other Brazilian music. On her return visits to Paris, she led her own quartet and performed at festivals and clubs. Aimee, who has been back in New York since 2002 is an integral member of the jazz community. She performs regularly at many venues and shares the stage with great jazz musicians like Roswell Rudd and Joel Frahm. Dream was her debut album.
