Alboran Trio

The name of the Alboran Trio is derived from the narrow strip of water that connects Europe to Africa around the Straits of Gibraltar. This has been a long conduit of cultural exchange. Paolo Paliaga (pianist) and composer, formed the group in ’03 with Dino Contenti (bass), and Gigi Bilaccati (drums). They consciously sought to draw from musical traditions all over the Mediterranean. Although the Alboran Trio is not as commercially successful as EST, it’s a new addition to piano trio music.
