Alex Goodman

Alex Goodman won the first prize and the Public’s Choice Award at 2014 Montreux Jazz Festival International Guitar Competition. He has been called “a definite musical vocal” (Guitar International), and “a jazz phenomenon around the world” (Birmingham Times). Alex’s CD Bridges was nominated in 2013 for the JUNO Contemporary Jazz Album Of The Year award, Canada’s highest musical honour. Goodman, who moved to New York in 2012 with Dick Oatts and Rich Perry, has recorded with many jazz musicians, including Eric Harland and Terell Stafford, Ben Wolfe and John Riley. Alex received the 2013 ASCAP Herb Alpert Jazz Composer Award. He has also written a book of solo guitar pieces and composed for many jazz groups, big bands, orchestras, chamber groups, big bands, and string quartets. Alex has played at New York City’s most prestigious clubs, including Smalls, The Appel Room at Lincoln Center, The Jazz Standard, Mezzrow, 55 Bar, Smoke, Cornelia Street Cafe, and at prestigious international venues like the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Massey Hall, Toronto, as well as at jazz festivals such as Winter Jazz Fest in New York, Montreux Jazz Festival, and the Montreux Jazz Festival. Alex has performed all over the globe in countries such as Belgium, India, Switzerland and Germany.
