Cuban pianist, arranger, composer and singer, born 25 Oct 1936 in Havana, Cuba, and died 3 Oct 2005 in Paris, France. From discogs Alfredo Rodriguez, a member of the early movement of Cuban jazz musicians into New York, was born in Havana, Cuba in 1936. He studied classical music and French. He moved to Manhattan in 1960 and studied jazz under Bill Evans and Albert Dailey. After that, he played for about a decade with various Caribbean bands in Manhattan. After a short stint in Miami in early ’70s he moved to New York and began his career as a club performer and session player. His best recording is the 1976 album Ready for Freddie, which he recorded with Patato Valdes. Rodriguez made the move to Paris in 1985. He was a bandleader in a less saturated market for Cuban jazz, and gained respect as a pianist. His ventures into major-release recordings, including the Cuba Linda sessions and early work with Cubanismo!, have been a success. Los Originales, exiled Cuban masters. Recently, he has been working in Europe with friends from different Cuban groups called los Acereko. They are dazzling European audiences with heavy doses Cuban jazz.
