Algernon

Algernon is one of Chicago’s hottest rising bands. They are all instrumental and feature a unique line up of dual guitars. Dave Miller, guitarist and composer, leads the band. Algernon’s second guitarist, Toby Summerfield, who was also a Larval member for many years, vibes player Katie Wiegman and bassist Tom Perona are the other members. Drummer Cory Healey is also a part of Algernon. Miller created Agernon to blend a variety of musical influences in a unique way. These influences include experimental music (60s psychedelic, Jimi Hendrix and 13th Floor Elevators), and kraut-rock (Harmonia Can, Neu! ), post-rock, (Tortoise. Isotope 217. Chicago Underground. Godspeed!, Talk Talk), the late 70s art punk and no-wave scene (Sonic Youth. Glenn Branca), and avant-garde jazz. Algernon’s music has one important aspect. Despite Dave having a strong jazz background Algernon does not improvise. Dave composes the music for the group. There is very little improvisation, and it is more about atmospheres than solos. from www.cuneiformrecords.com
