ANDRESS VIAL is a Canadian citizen, born to South American parents. He has performed in many idioms including Jazz, Latin and Funk, Balinese music, Rock, Modern Classical, and Rock. In the late 1970s, his parents emigrated from Chile and Argentina to Canada. This was at a time of brutal military regimes in both countries. Andres grew up in a musical family. His father was a classical pianist, and every member of his family plays an instrument. As a child, he began playing the piano. He was more interested in pure improvisation than studying classical literature. He was attracted to blues, jazz and boogie-woogie piano playing from the age of 11. He began playing drums at the age of 13 and performed with various rock, jazz, and blues bands. He attended Vanier College’s music program from 1996 to 2000, where he studied drumset and classicalpercussion. Andres was inspired by his involvement in performing works of Minimalist composers like Steve Reich to learn more about Balinese music. He eventually joined the University of Montreal’s Balinese percussion group. From 1997-2000 to 2004-2005, he performed extensively with the ensemble. Andres studied jazz piano from 2001 to 2004 at the New School University Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City. After graduating, Andres returned to Montreal in 2004. Wayne and Errol, who have been living in Montreal for about twenty-five year have worked alongside some of Quebec’s most renowned performers.
