Niescier, Angelika, saxophones, bassclarnet, composition; b. Szczecin, Poland, 16 September 1970.
1981, she moved to Germany with her family. She currently lives and works in Cologne. She graduated with a diploma from the Folkwanghochschule in Essen (Germany), where she studied 1994-98. She has been playing in Jazz-Clubs throughout Germany since 1995 as a sidewoman, with many jazzformations. She formed her first quartett in 1998 with the aim of performing only Angelika Niescier’s music. In the same year, she was awarded the Promotion Prize for Music of the City Dusseldorf. Angelika Niesier, a composer for the Theatre of Dusseldorf in 1999, performed at the jazzfestival of WDR and took part (with her quartett), in many festivals that introduced modern jazz to Germany. 2001 saw many concerts with her quartett “Angelika Niescier sublim” where the band received overwhelmingly positive reviews from both the audience and the media. For one of these concerts, the National Music Council awarded a Promotion for Concerts of Female Componists from NRW to the musican; another TV-concert with Angelika Niescier at the WDR with Angelika Niescier – sublim; she was responsible for the conception, lead, and performance of the literature/music project “Resonances” and also composed and recorded the music for a CD Rom that was aimed at female artists in NRW during the 20th century.
