Angie Wells

Angie Wells was raised in a home that was filled with great music. Her mother was a gospel pianist and sang. Her father was an avid jazz and blues lover. Sarah Vaughan’s music, Carmen McRae and Nancy Wilson as well as Muddy Waters, Muddy, Muddy, and B.B. were all a part of her childhood. King, to name just a few, could be heard in her childhood home on any given day. At five years old, Count Basie visited her school to play for her kindergarten class. It was the beginning of a new era. Wells started her singing career at an intimate Paris supper club, St. Germain des Pres. She joined the trio that night to learn a few songs. She was elated by the enthusiastic applause from the audience and decided to train professionally. She was a finalist in the Sweet n’ HOT Jazz Festival’s New Talent Competition and qualified for the Indaba Music Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition. Angie’s rich, smoky voice can make listeners go berserk when she sings blues or ballads. Then it turns around and makes them dance to her swinging moves. Angie “gives a show” as the true meaning of the expression. She does this by wearing glamorous costumes, engaging banter and giving her best to her audience. from www.angiewellsjazz1.com
